There are many things to be grateful for in life. One of those things I wish to reflect on is the beauty of the west coast. Being situated in British Columbia for over 2 years now has afforded me the best backyard in the world. If you have any desire to commune with nature, this is the place. From ancient forests to the costal beaches and the mountain range that towers in the background: It’s all here. However all of this natural beauty isn’t confined to just British Columbia. Washington State to the south offers’s up some incredible sights of its own. If you have ever had the privilege of commuting across BC’s lower mainland. You might have spotted a mountain to the southwest looming in the distance. Say hello to Mt. Baker. At an elevation of 3,288 metres, Mt. Baker is actually a stratovolcano. While it’s been 144 since the last recorded eruption. It’s a fascinating fact of the Pacific Northwest that volcanos are found here. Adding to the variety of the region. There is no better time to explore this area then on weekends and holidays. You don’t need much to do so and only necessity for adventure is the right attitude. I’ve made it my mission to get out whenever possible. Long weekends are the best for maximum exposure. Discovering new towns and old landscapes. Everything offers up a story and presents its own character, you just have to listen. Recent treks to the evergreen state include visiting the town of Poulsbo and Mt. Baker-Snowqualmie National Forest.
